Helping women with chronic illnesses

Twitter Impostor

As many of you have concluded by now, my twitter account has been impersonated.

Before I proceed, let me mention that the single easiest, simplest way to reach my authentic twitter page is to click on the twitter icon (small blue heart) in the right sidebar of this blog. This will route you straight to my account. If you are following any accounts that look very similar but have a differently spelled twitter name, please block them!

Please read this post carefully as the twitter account that is posing as me has caused confusion and I want to help you know which account is which so that you will not accidentally follow the hacker’s account.

Here is a picture of my twitter page:

Please note the spelling of my twitter name:

Please be aware that the impostor’s account uses a very similar twitter name spelling, uses my exact same avatar picture, uses the same twitter page background I use, etc. In other words, visually these two accounts look extremely alike!

I am not going to mention the impostor’s account name here because I don’t want to give that account any more “free publicity” than it has already gotten. If you think you may be listed as a follower to the impostor’s account and want to block it, simply skim through the list of who you’re following. If you see an account that looks like me, please look closely at the spelling of the twitter account name. If it is anything other than my account listed above, PLEASE block it.

Some of my twitter followers have already accidentally followed the hacker account thinking it was me. If you have followed any twitter account other than what I list above, thinking that you were following me… please block that account. Obviously, it’s important that my twitter followers not also be following the account of the impostor posing as me.

The impostor has sent out messages aimed at hurting not just me but my twitter friends. I ask that anyone who is accidentally following the impostor’s account as well as mine or in place of mine (you see, the impostor is doing an impostor’s job and confusing people as to which account is which and there have been people who have followed me for years and stopped following me/started following the impostor, thinking that my real account is the impostor)… simply block the impostor’s account.

If you are unsure of whether you are following the impostor, I ask you to please check who you are following to make sure that you are not following the “look-alike” account.

I have one and only one twitter account. It is the same one I have been using since 2007.

Again it’s:

As of the writing of this post, I have 8,514 tweets listed on my authentic account. However, the important part to pay attention to for differentiating my twitter account from any impostor is to pay close attention to the spelling of my twitter name:

Again, the screen shot above shows my REAL account. Again, the impostor’s twitter page looks very similar.

Unlike the impostor, I do not use profanity in tweets. I have seen tweets sent by the impostor which contain profanity and hurtful attacks on individuals.

For anyone reading this who is confused about who @jeanneendo is, I would encourage you to look through this blog and get a better understanding of what I write about and do. With the confusion caused by the impostor, the best way to get a handle on what @jeanneendo is about might be to take a bit of time to read this blog… and see what I have written in my own words, see what topics I write about, etc.

Last but not least, I would obviously like to get this message out to as many people as possible. Therefore, I would greatly appreciate and Stumbles you could do. I would also be grateful for any “Tweet Me” updates you can do. There are many people confused about what’s happening. I am only one person and answering everyone’s questions in a timely fashion is quite impossible with the number of questions I’m getting. My hope is that this post covers the #1 question people have been asking me… Which account is real and which account is the impostor?

Thank you for your patience and understanding in getting through the challenges posed by this unfortunate incident!

The internet is so great for social networking, but this is the part that I absolutely hate–the misrepresentations/impostors, the anonymous disrespectful comments that most people would not say in person, the one-sided attacks or even overblown “feuds” that occur as a result of misinterpretations and dehumanizing of the people on the other end of the screen (as well as, often, blatant instigation). I am so sorry (and sad and angry) to hear that you and endochick, both great resources to the chronic illness and blogging communities, are victims of such malicious behavior. I hope this does not deter you from continuing to be a strong presence online, sharing your valuable wisdom and giving/ receiving support.

I will not be able to respond to comments one by one, as I normally do, but will try to post a few at a time as I am able. I won’t be able to customize responses as usual. I may reply to certain comments as necessary or as time allows…. It will vary from comment to comment.

This reply is in response to your comment but it’s also for anyone else who might be still confused about the situation and reading this….

No… this twitter impostor situation is very much NOT corrected! This post was simply to alert people to the situation and try to help alleviate as much confusion as possible. Please re-read my Twitter Impostor post and verify you are following me and are not following the impostor.

I apologize for everyone’s confusion but this is, after all, the impostor’s purpose… to intentionally cause confusion. I cannot control what the impostor does. I can, however, ask my readers for help in checking things carefully. So long as people are still following the impostor thinking it’s me they are following, the impostor’s agenda is being supported.

So if anyone reading this sees someone they know following the impostor’s account, feel free to direct them to this post so that they can get clarification on which account is which. So they can block the impostor. I will not dignify the impostor by naming the fake account (even to tell people what to block). Naming the account only furthers the confusion. As I said, each person can see who they are following simply my looking at their own “following” section. No one wants to be following an impostor. Who knows what spam that can invite? It is in everyone’s best interest to take the time to check that who they are following is who they really think it is; while this may seem inconvenient, it beats showing up as a follower to an account run by someone who would pose as someone else.

I want it to be clear to anyone reading this that this problem is NOT resolved at all.

If you are in doubt, feel free to block both accounts. However, my post should help you be clear on which account is me.

Or, as I believe I said in the post… just click the twitter symbol from my blog (top right). It will take you straight to my real account. Anything similar to it is FAKE! The accounts look very much alike but if you look for the differences mentioned in the post, it’s actually pretty easy to tell them apart.

To verify that you are not accidentally following the impostor, simply look at your own “following” list. If you see an account that looks like mine, verify that it is the real one. Please don’t stop there, though. Keep looking through your followers to ensure you are not ALSO following the fake account. Again, you can do this checking right from your own “following” section.

P.S. Some people are inadvertently following BOTH accounts. Please check. Verifying that you are following the correct account doesn’t mean you might not also be following the impostor’s account. Many people who were already following me got a twitter email inviting them to follow the fake account. Since this fake account has my picture on it, apparently there were many people who simply followed the impostor even though they were already following me.

I found the impostor (which claims that you’re the impostor 😐 ) and reported it as spam, which might help?

Welcome! Thank you for your efforts at reporting the impostor posing as me as spam. (Yes, I am familiar with the impostor’s attempts to tell people I am the spammer. This is all part of the job when you’re an impostor, I’m afraid… to confuse people as much as possible). I really appreciate you reporting it. I believe the more people report that impostor account, the better. Thank you for taking the time to do that. I just visited your blog for the first time and left you a comment. Hope you are enjoying your weekend!

It is very unfortunate that there are twitter impostors causing confusion and wasted time for so many people. It is always sad when a platform that can be used for so much that is GOOD gets used for negative reasons, used to hurt people, and used as a money-making machine at the expense of those who are simply trying to use it to connect with fellow patients to give/receive support. Hopefully you can get some resolution as soon as possible.

Welcome! Thank you for your kind words of support. Needless to say, I agree with your thoughts about it being unfortunate when twitter, which I’ve seen do so much good, becomes a venue for those who wish to use it for unhelpful (that’s an understatement) purposes. Thank you for your support!

Hey, Jeanne. I got your message on flickr. So sorry this happened to you! I searched for the fraudulent acct just now, and I got a “Halt, who goes there?” message. Maybe it’s been deleted at last? I hope so. What a crappy deal. Thanks for letting me know. Sorry I followed the wrong Jeanne!

Thanks for the note. Twitter FINALLY ditched the impostor account last night… 27 days after I reported the problem. So, you’re right… It’s FINALLY gone! Thanks for stopping by. I’m now dealing with the aftermath. Keep up your great work.
