Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Now ya do!

A couple of nights ago, I was fortunate enough to have a lovely dinner with my friend Alicia who writes Yaya Stuff. As many of you already know, Alicia (aka Yaya) is an in-person friend as well as being a blogger friend. (She’s even a member of “My Healing Posse”. See right sidebar). We met through our local endometriosis support group.
Anyhow, before we even stepped foot into the restaurant… Alicia had given me this handmade gift:

Alicia is so amazingly sweet and thoughtful.
(She also showed me the blog giveaway she made for this blog. So stay tuned because after the current giveaway will be Alicia’s and it’s awesome)!
Anyway, we had a nice dinner that went by too quickly. The restaurant we had picked (Olive Garden) was so packed heading into the holiday weekend that it took awhile to get a table and the entire parking lot was full by the time I arrived. (Alicia had managed to snag a spot). When we left the restaurant, Alicia suggested driving me to my car the next parking lot over.
While she was driving, I looked out my window and saw this rainbow…

Now, considering that rainbows aren’t visible too, too often and that this one just happened to be there the minute we walked outside… this seemed pretty “bloggable” to me. (The “bloggable” term I coined was cracking Alicia up). So we positioned the car so that we could get out and take some decent pictures of this beautiful rainbow.

Anyhow, we saw some very pretty clouds and that gorgeous rainbow.
Before we left, I stopped to take a moment to capture Alicia’s bumper stickers for posterity…

The first sticker is for Parenthood For Me, an organization providing financial and emotional assistance, along with educational tools, for those starting families through adoption and medical intervention.
The 2nd sticker ties in with Alicia’s nickname and simply cracked me up.
Last but not least, anyone who follows Alicia’s blog may be aware that she has a bit of an addiction to Lime Tostitos. Well, Alicia is sad because her husband is away for 2.5 weeks for work (including their July 4th wedding anniversary). This is the longest they’ve ever been apart and she’s sad. So, I wanted to take Alicia some “comfort food”. This final shot is Alicia, as she is about to drive away… posing with her Lime Tostitos.

On a more serious note, Alicia is very sad after the grueling infertility battle she and her husband have been through for the last 7 years.

It pains me to see my friend so sad and feel totally helpless to make her feel better.
Please join me in sending positive thoughts Alicia’s way as she and her husband, Josh, are planning to give fertility treatments one more chance.
You can read more about it on Alicia’s blog… She has posted extensively about her journey through infertility and miscarriages.

Josh & Alicia… a loving couple who want desperately to be parents
Here is her most recent post: Why I Don’t Like To Be Alone/Don’t Quit. Please join me in hoping (and praying if you believe in that) that Alicia and Josh will be able to resolve their 7 year battle with infertility soon.
I’m not a superstitious person but I sit here finding myself wishing for good luck at the end of the rainbow for Alicia and Josh. Please help me in sending positive energy their way!!!
I will close with a Christopher Reeve quote that was brought to my attention by Alicia herself a few months back…
“Once you choose hope, anything is possible”. — Christopher Reeve

Jeanne,
Thanks for talking about Alicia (Yaya). I find her resolve to get through each day amazing. She would fit into what I describe in my most recent blog post as a super-hero. Alicia, you deserve that status.
I will never know what it is like to have empty arms as Alicia does. I have gone through 3.5 years of infertility prior to having my son Jacob which included multiple losses. The pain is still very real in my heart as I think of them. As devastating as the losses were, each one still holds something special in our hearts which drives us forward. It’s a key to hope. With each loss, it would hit me harder than the last, but there was something there to drive me forward. I see this strength in Alicia as well.
I may not know her as well as you Jeanne, in fact I am but a stranger to her, however her words ring true in my heart.
I do hope that they find that lucky charm at the end of that rainbow through whatever method it may come to them. Keep the hope up Alicia!
Sincerely,
Melissa Ralston

I’m glad you posted this! I’ve been a bad blogger lately and I’m behind! We are thinking about you Alicia!!!!!!!!
Melissa,
Alicia is amazing on many levels! While I have not yet read your post, I can easily agree with you that she fits into the super-hero(ine) category. She is a very, very special woman who inspires many, supports/helps many, and has a pure heart. She is the kind of friend everyone wishes they had. She doesn’t do things for recognition but because they are the right thing to do. She is a role model for others.
Alicia gets up every day and goes to work at a job as a nanny for 4 young children while she struggles year after year to have children of her own. I honestly don’t know how she does it. Alicia is very, very strong.
I too hope that Alicia and Josh become parents via whatever method this comes to them.
Alicia is truly the most hopeful person I’ve ever met. She is quite literally full of hope. That’s why it is so difficult to watch her hopes get dashed repeatedly. I hope that something will happen soon. Whether with the adoption process they have worked so hard on or with their upcoming fertility treatments.
Jeanne
Allison,
I think it’s important to ask people to focus positive energy on people like you and Alicia who are struggling so hard to become parents. So many people take fertility for granted. I think it’s important for people to stop and take a moment to think about those for whom infertility and/or miscarriages are an issue. Best of luck with your upcoming IVF and I hope you’re feeling well!!!

Sending good energy to Alicia, Josh, and yourself
I had a similar rainbow experience exiting a restaurant on my birthday two years ago! It is so nice to be able to capture a little of those moments on photo

You are too sweet! That was awesome to get to have dinner with you! And the rainbow was just the icing on the cake. Hopefully some intense symbolism for things to come. You should have posted you with the rainbow as well! It really was beautiful. Good thing you had your camera for that bloggable moment!

Seriously, such a sweet post. Thank you!

Alicia,
It was so nice to see you, as always! The rainbow really was awesome, wasn’t it? I hope it had symbolism too!! I decided my hair was too messy.
Yes, I’m glad I had my camera and, yes, it was bloggable!
Jeanne
Endochick,
Thanks for the positive energy for Alicia!

I tried to view this yesterday and it wouldn’t open
( but I got here finally!!
Alicia,
I haven’t followed your blog extensively because I don’t really know that much about infertility and feel like I can’t really relate properly as I haven’t been through it myself and don’t want to leave “empty comments”. That being said, I do pop over occasionally and think of you. I shall certainly keep you and Josh in my thoughts and prayers – I might not know the desperation you must be feeling but I do know the desire for a family to love and raise and I will be hoping with all my heart that your long battle will provide you finally with the dream you have treasured for so long.
Jeanne,
Thanks for updating us and I’m very glad you had such a lovely time together! Oh and yes I’m ok, just tired from work (every day this week we’ve served over 1600 people and yesterday and today we’ve done that with only 3 or 4 of us maximum at any one time – I have to train the head of service today in working the counter and serving customers – she’s never done it before and has finally decided she needs to see what it’s like before making all these policies about how quickly we have to answer the phone and how many services we offer etc… she’s in for a shock as this weekend is our busiest with a Darwin conference, an air show and the annual “big weekend” with free entertainment around the city… (glad I’m not working it!) All’s ok though, I’m much better. I heard from my line manager that HR have decided that yes endo does come under the disability discrimination act and they are looking into how that affects things like monitoring my sickness and working patterns – finally we’re getting somewhere! Oh and I am getting closer to deciding which direction to take my blog in – it’s very exciting – I think I’ll keep the one I have now in a slightly different format and start a new one with a friend for something new and exciting. Even so my current one might get “jazzed up” if I can figure out how to do a decent recording of some singing and work out what “slant” it will take – stay tuned ;o)
Take good care of yourself Jeanne and Alicia!! xx

Amanda,
I’m sorry that you too were affected by the server outage that took my blog down yesterday. (It had to to with a virus at the server company and affected lots of people). So I was down for a few hours. Thank you for your persistence!
Thank you for the supportive comments/thoughts for Alicia and Josh!
Yes, any time with Alicia is automatically lovely.
She is just a joy.
I’m glad you’re OK and sorry you’re working so much. It’s always fun to give “eye-openers” to people… in this case taking the form of the training you’ll be giving. That’s great news from your line manager! So endo is considered to fall under the disability discrimination act in the UK or just at your particular company?
Good news about your blog(s). I am looking forward to hearing your singing!! Keep me posted!
