Shopping From Home?

This post is different than my usual posts. So, please bear with me.

If the idea of doing even a portion of your shopping from home appeals to you, please read on… What the heck, please read on regardless. Who knows? You might decide to shop differently this year after reading this.

The list:
Long lines…
Traffic…
Gas money…
Crowds…
Noise…
Cranky people…
The toll on your body…
Large expenditure of time…

THE MALL…….

MALLPHOTO_by_KLCC1_833930_klcc_1

I don’t know about you but I don’t care for malls. For me, the biggest deterrent is that malls inevitably expose me to fragrances that make me sick. Between the candle and fragrance stores, the shoppers wearing fragrances, and the store employees wearing fragrances plus the hair and nail salons within malls… the toxins in the air trigger my multiple chemical sensitivity symptoms to the point where I have actually passed out from inhaling something my body couldn’t handle.

You may not have MCS like me but I’ll bet there is something you can relate to in “the list” above. Some of you may shop online. Some may do a portion of shopping online and a portion at the mall or other stores. Some don’t do any online shopping.

If you do any online shopping, I just wanted to take a moment to make you aware that if you are considering making any Amazon purchases, doing so using any of the Amazon ads on my blog results in a small referral fee for me. If you order the exact same item directly from the Amazon site without accessing Amazon via my blog ads, I do not get a referral fee.

If the idea of shopping from home in your pajamas appeals to you and if you’d like to avoid at least some of the traffic, lines, and commotion associated with mall shopping, please take a moment to check out the special deals and sales Amazon has going on now. They have some major discounts.

Please note: If you place an Amazon order through my blog ads, the price you pay for your purchase is no different than if you ordered directly from Amazon’s site.

So far my biggest “referral customer” is my husband, who did almost all of our holiday shopping the other night on Amazon via my blog ads. We use Amazon quite a bit and many items are eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders of $25.00 or more. Anyway, Amazon is very quick and started processing our order immediately after he placed it.

I would like to thank Sonja and Endochick, who have both helped me spread the word online about my Amazon ads.

As Sonja told me yesterday, she is planning to make an Amazon purchase sometime this season and she’ll be using my link. She said if I hadn’t mentioned my Amazon ads, she would have “totally forgotten about it”.

So, I just wanted to post this to make people aware of my Amazon ads (which are much more numerous than usual because of the holidays). I have Amazon ads on my blog year-round but if you’ve laid eyes on my blog lately, you’ve probably noticed a large increase in the number of Amazon ads I have posted.

This post is just my way of letting people know that clicking on any Amazon ad on my blog at any time of the year does result in a small referral fee for me. I have been blogging for exactly 1.5 years as of yesterday. I have lost money in that time. I chose to migrate from “Jeanne’s Endo Blog” on Blogger to Chronic Healing on self-hosted WordPress. I’m very happy to have transferred from my former blog to my current one but it did cost money to make the switch and it would be wonderful to be able to recoup even a fraction of that cost with some Amazon referrals.

The purpose of this blog is to help people, to act as a place where patients can have mutual support, and as a resource for chronically ill patients. I am not looking to make a profit but, yes I must admit… breaking even would be nice.

CH_button

Longtime readers of my blog know that this post is a rarity. I don’t often write such posts. I am not much of a salesperson. In fact, I hate trying to sell things (even just selling the idea of shopping Amazon, as I am doing in this post). The fact is that many people are making Amazon purchases and if I don’t let people know that making them by clicking on any of my Amazon ads gives me a referral fee, they won’t know. So, it’s my job to get the word out.

So, I just wanted to make people aware of my ads. Granted, they are hard to miss lately because I, admittedly, have added quite a few of them. However, not everyone pays attention to ads when reading blogs or necessarily understands that the way the Amazon ads work is that I get a referral fee for any purchases made from Amazon through my blog. I have learned that if I don’t mention it, people generally have no way of knowing… and some of those people do shop Amazon.

Also, thank you to the person or persons who made purchases using my blog ads yesterday. Amazon doesn’t show me who made the purchase. I just see what item was purchased. Whoever you are, I just wanted to thank you if you happen to be reading this!

OK… that’s the end of my shameless plug for Amazon links on this site. πŸ™‚

Thank you.

Holy cow! Am I first??

2 Jannie FunsterNo Gravatar { 12.02.09 at 3:18 pm }

Okay, let’s assume I WAS first commenter, (even if I’m not. You know how that whole moderation thing can go…)

So, assuming I AM first komminter — I mean commenter… now with my chest all puffed out and proud I tell you I am off to the bath-tub.

And will return.

And will buy something from Amazon.com via YOU, whoo-hoo.

So how’s about those apples???

Jannie,

Yes, you are the very first commenter on this post. πŸ™‚

Jeanne

4 JeanneNo Gravatar { 12.02.09 at 3:40 pm }

Jannie,

Yes, you were the 1st and 2nd commenter on this post. Impressive! Your blog-stalking skills are downright Funster-ific. Yes, I know how that comment moderation thing can go. Of course, I don’t average 60 comments per post like you. So, you probably know how that goes better than me. (Feel free to send your friends my way. They shop, right?)

Now, it sounds like BB took over. At least… I can only assume that Blue Bunny was talking (based on spelling) and then you two switched places at the laptop mid-stream. Is that right? Of course, BB is so small that he/she can probably just perch right on the laptop keyboard, no? I am not sure whether it’s BB or Jannie off to get clean. It’s hard to tell.

I like the “will return” part. Any Funster humor is always well appreciated, as you know.

Woo-hoo! Jannie and BB are BOTH going to buy something from Amazon via my blog. Double sales. Yahoo! It’s my lucky day. Umm… BB does have the ability to make purchases, right?? I mean, BB is part of Funster Management, correct? As such, wouldn’t he/she need to be authorized to make expenditures? Well, I’m not worried. If BB has lettuce alone for currency, I’m sure you’ll spot him/her something from the U.S. Mint. Right?

Apples? I feel like I missed something here. Am I having brain fog? I have zero recollection of apples. You’re scaring me a little here. What apples? Have we talked recently about apples? Lettuce I remember. Apples I don’t. Am I mixing up produce? What about carrots? Doesn’t BB want carrots?

Please let me know about this when you “return” to single-handedly make the largest Amazon purchase ever recorded. That’s right. Take all of that dough you’ve made now that you’re a professional musician with a CD released and another on the way and purchase some things for going incognito when the paparazzi is trying to stalk you. I’m sure Amazon has what you need. Heck, Amazon has just about everything. I think you can do it… I think you can set a new record for purchases at Amazon. Show Amazon a little Funster love. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it (and you know I will).

Tell me all about the apples tout suite. (Hope I have the right French. It’s been awhile remember?)

Hellooooooooooo Miss J!!!!

Whoohoooooooo you are going to be happy when Amazon shoppers get busy eh?? Glad I saw this Jeanne, b/c I have an order started on Amazon, it keeps being strung out to the next day….so I haven’t actually bought my stuff yet….I think I’ll finish soon, so I sure hope this purchase of mine helps you honey. Much love always,
Shauna <<<who can't get out to the malls but that's ok cuz I don't like them anyway!!!

Shauna,

Well, hello there! It’s nice to hear from you. It’s been a little bit since we’ve connected. My only hope is that I can get the word out to people who might be doing some Amazon shopping… so they can shop here. πŸ™‚ If I don’t mention it to people… few, if any, will use my ads. So, I’m mentioning it.

I’m glad you saw it too and that you hadn’t already placed your order. Thanks for thinking of me!

I hope you are feeling better! I know that you’ve been having a really tough time with pain.

Jeanne <<< Who is really not a mall fan and loves Amazon…

Jannie,

Yes, a whole herd of holy cows. I am sorry but I do not own a feather banana. Do you??

Are you sure? I think 48 comments per post sounds lower than what you really get. Oops, am I talking to Jannie or her sidekick, Blue Bunny? It just dawned on me that the rodent-style of spelling had crept in. Who am I talking to??

Singing… I think we’ve flipped back to Jannie, world-famous musician. Am I right? Educated guesses here. Educated guesses.

Thank you for the French spelling tips. Now if only you could help Blue Bunny spell.

So what is the story with the apples? You still didn’t say. ??? What do apples have to do with dough?

Singing again… must be Jannie…

Wait a minute, were you talking about “dough” for the massive, record-breaking Amazon order you’re going to be placing?

I like the part “a shopping I will in the next week here go, whoo-hoo”. I like your style, planning, and thought processes.

Jeanne

P.S. Jannie or Blue Bunny or whoever is currently talking, I never suspected any intoxicated state. I am used to both of you being silly and funny… and, let’s face it, a bit strange. Oh, I see how comment is spelled. So BB wrote the latter part at least. Anyway, Jannie go enjoy some chocolate and please feed BB some lettuce. I will talk with y’all soon (human, rodent… doesn’t much matter because you were both nice enough to come visit my blog). Did you see how I threw that “y’all” in there for you Texans? OK, Canadians transplanted to Texas to be precise. Jannie and BB, thank you for making me laugh… as always. The world needs more of that positive energy! πŸ™‚

14 JeanneNo Gravatar { 12.03.09 at 11:55 pm }

Jannie,

First, my dear friend, let me thank you for your dedication as a blog commenter and your wonderful questions that enable me to clear up any confusion on this point.

If you click on ANY Amazon link on my blog that ends up in a purchase, then YES Amazon will know you came from my blog. Yes, that will result in a small amount of “dough” for me.

Anything at all that you purchase by clicking on/through my Amazon ads, reaching the Amazon site, and going on to make a purchase counts. πŸ™‚

Even if it’s a used item? Yes.

Oh no! I hope you were not literally holding your breath that long. If so, you must be turning blue by now. We don’t need you as blue as Blue Bunny. Jannie, please take nice deep breaths.

Please let me know if you have any more questions and I will be happy to oblige.

16 JeanneNo Gravatar { 12.06.09 at 3:16 am }

Blue Bunny,

Hmm. I am just curious… why are you commenting with Jannie’s wise eye avatar? Should I doubt that you are really Blue Bunny talking? Granted, there are enough spelling errors here to make it appear that this comment was indeed written by a lovable, blue rodent. On the other hand, though, perhaps you have joined Jannie in partaking in the consumption of beverages that carry a “proof number”? Please don’t be offended by my posing of this question.

It’s just that… in the case of this particular blog comment, I’m actually having trouble making out what it is you’re saying. Thus my theory with the drinks. Now, Blue Bunny, I find it hard to believe that Jannie would be off partying while expecting you to pick up her blogging slack.

Could you have misunderstood her request? Something is not adding up here.

Now, Blue Bunny, I do believe that you may be entitled to a raise. After all, Jannie created you your own avatar (which mysteriously didn’t get used for this comment (which names you) BUT boasts Jannie’s wise eye). So, she apparently plans to put you to work a fair amount making blog comments.

All the lettuce in the world isn’t going to cut it for compensation, right? I am guessing you’ve asked for carrots as part of your salary improvement package? Blue Bunny, it’s important to advocate for yourself. The good news is that Jannie Funster is a generous, sweet woman and I believe she’ll give you just compensation. Be patient. I think she’s new to managing employees who are bunnies. So, give her a chance to get past the learning curve.

Blue Bunny, whether you are shopping on behalf on Jannie with her legal tender or whether she is doing it herself makes no difference to me. I should forewarn you that Amazon doesn’t accept lettuce as a form of payment. Just a little tip that may save you some grief. You just keep reminding Jannie, please, about Amazon and ask her to check Amazon before EBay – before buying anything because Amazon’s incredible inventory/prices just might surprise her.

I made out the “with love” part. Aww. Thank you, Blue Bunny. I am touched. You are a wonderful virtual assistant for Jannie. Just don’t let her get too big for her britches. You see, ever since the paparazzi started following her around subsequent to the release of her first CD, I have to constantly remind her to keep her head small enough to fit through the door. BB, since you see her every day, you have an important role with keeping Jannie’s ultra-fame from blowing her head up like a Thanksgiving Day balloon.

BB, I will put in a good word for you with the official “Blue Bunny Management” (you know? Jannie)…

Jeanne
xo

P.S. Nice to know Jannie loves Granny Smith apples but what does this have to do with… umm… anything? Is Jannie being cryptic on purpose? Did something get lost in translation? Does Grannie Jannie like Granny Smith apples in name only? BB, one more thing… people who are new to my blog reading comments like this one might get scared away and think this is the norm. So, please do me a couple of favors. (1) please borrow Jannie’s dictionary to check your spelling so I know what you’re saying. (2) please try to sound a “wee” bit more “normal”, so as not to scare my readers away.

To be clear, I do NOT expect you to speed past Jannie in the “normal” lane. All I ask is that you try to leave comments that don’t scare away my readers who might drop in and think they are on a blog that’s written in some other language besides English that they can’t understand.

Thank you, Blue Bunny… for stopping by to inform & entertain. Please pass along my best wishes to Jannie. I hope she is off to a grand start to a fabulous Funster weekend! Please do make sure she knows I said hello.

Jeanne — I’m so glad you put up this post! I make frequent purchases at Amazon and now I know that if I just click on an Amazon link at your blog, I can not only make my purchases, but it will benefit someone I hold in high regard. We all want to help people we love and care about but don’t always know HOW to help. Thank you for having the courage to write this post (it can be hard to let people know how they can help you or to ask for help). So, bravo! This is a win-win situation — I get what I planned to purchase and I get to help my friend at the same time. Once I’m back in grad school…you should see the credits start to roll in as I buy all of my college textbooks on Amazon — way cheaper than the school bookstore (up to 90% savings).

Hugs,
Gyan

PS There was no alcohol involved in writing this comment. Although, I’m not so sure about the bunny…LOL

18 GyandeviNo Gravatar { 12.07.09 at 2:12 pm }

Well, I was very pleased to see that Amazon carries my migraine herb — Butterbur. However, I did notice that they were all out of Butter Beer. I’m bettin’ the bunny bought it all, drank most of it, and left comments all over your blog. That waskelly wabbit.

19 JeanneNo Gravatar { 12.07.09 at 2:40 pm }

Gyan,

Thank you for your kind words and for making an Amazon purchase through my blog! πŸ™‚ You’re right that posting this felt a bit awkward for me. I’m definitely not much of a marketer. However, I’m fully aware that if I don’t let people know about the ads and how they work, few people (if any) will use them. Since posting this (and since my hubby sent out an email to family and friends about it), people are actually finding my Amazon ads and using them.

So, I appreciate support from friends like you who are using my Amazon ads to make their Amazon purchases. Now that you know about my Amazon ads, you’ll be able to use them year-round for those frequent Amazon purchases you mentioned. πŸ™‚ I have extra ads posted at holiday time but I do have Amazon ads year-round. So, bring it on. πŸ™‚

Gee, Gyan… you have me looking forward to you starting graduate school and purchasing all of those textbooks. I wish I could have bought my college textbooks on Amazon. Back in the dark ages when I was in college, I had to purchase books from my college bookstore only. Needless to say, they were not cheap. (They knew what they were doing with their textbook sales monopoly).

Anyway, thank you again for your sweet comments and for placing an Amazon order through my blog ads. I really appreciate it!

Hugs to you,

Jeanne

P.S. I can see that there was no alcohol involved in the writing of this comment. I agree with you that Blue Bunny’s comment was highly suspicious. By the way… Blue Bunny, if you’re not aware, is Jannie Funster’s sidekick… I mean, er virtual assistant. I will have to ask Jannie Funster if perhaps Blue Bunny has been hitting the butter beer. I hear from the Harry Potter characters that butter beer is quite tasty. Though it also, apparently, can be taken in excess.

20 JeanneNo Gravatar { 12.07.09 at 3:02 pm }

Gyan,

I’m glad to hear Amazon stocks the herb you were looking for. Well, I’m sorry to hear that Amazon did not carry butter beer. πŸ™ Amazon has a fantastically wonderful inventory! I think the ONLY place you can get butter beer is at Hogsmeade… but that’s in England AND it’s also only in fiction.

Sooooooooooo, I can’t say that I’m surprised that Amazon didn’t have butter beer. In fairness to Amazon, it wouldn’t be at all realistic for us to expect them to stock fictional beverages!

Butter beer could indeed explain Blue Bunny’s behavior on the preceding blog comments. You have an excellent point. I think I’d better check with Jannie Funster to make sure Blue Bunny is OK. Jannie just gave Blue Bunny his/her own avatar and apparently Blue Bunny even makes blog comments on Jannie’s behalf now.

You see, poor Jannie gets so many blog comments on her wildly popular blog Jannie Funster that she is having a difficult time keeping up with reciprocal blog comments. Since Blue Bunny works for Funster Management, she seems to have recruited him/her to be her virtual assistant.

Confidentially, I have heard that Blue Bunny is already asking for a salary increase. I wonder if BB has been purchasing butter beer in large quantities from Madam Rosmerta at The Three Broomsticks? I may have to explain butter beer to Jannie because I don’t think she has read the Harry Potter series as of yet. So, she may not even realize that Blue Bunny has (possibly) been making secret trips to Hogsmeade.

You see… the thing is that to purchase butter beer Blue Bunny would have to apparate to Hogsmeade. Do you think BB has the power to apparate? If so, I’d like to be taught how! There are many times I’ve wished I had the power to apparate. For example, on days when I have doctor’s appointments (about an hour away for each), I could just apparate right to the office and avoid all that pesky commuting. Trip to the dentist 45+ minutes away? No problem. I could apparate there as well.

I’ll have to check with Jannie and see whether Blue Bunny really does know how to apparate. I’d like lessons!

Jeanne

Gyan,

Wait a minute. Did you say “waskelly wabbit”? Hmm. Isn’t that Looney Tunes? My dear, you are showing that you’re about my age. I fear many reading this will not even know of the Looney Tunes cartoons. Alas, you did just have a birthday and you did acknowledge that you are “old as dirt”. I suppose those who are unfamiliar with waskelly wabbits will just have to leave a comment indicating that fact… and then we can fill them in. πŸ™‚ Sound good?

Dear Blue Bunny,

Aww. You are very nice too.

I understand that you are very busy, BB. I appreciate you stopping by. I can only imagine how many blogs you are visiting. BB, please be nice to Jannie because she is a dear friend and she has been very kind to me.

Now, as far as sneaking back to comment here when Jannie is sleeping is concerned… I would hate for there to be any tension inside Funster Management. So, perhaps it would be best to wait. I wouldn’t want you and Jannie getting into a tiff! I appreciate your enthusiasm, though, in blog commenting. You make a very helpful virtual assistant to Jannie. I’m sure she appreciates your efforts very much. Jannie is wonderful in the gratitude department.

P.S. BB, I am very happy to hear that Jannie has supplied you with legal tender to pursue your Amazon shopping expedition. You sound excited to shop. Have you ever shopped before? I wasn’t sure if blue bunnies are generally into shopping much or not. I hope that you enjoy your shopping experience at Amazon via my blog.

25 JeanneNo Gravatar { 12.07.09 at 7:34 pm }

Blue Bunny,

Oh, Blue Bunny, here you are again! I forgot to ask you today but why is your comment coming up with Jannie’s wise eye? I had asked you about this other other day, remember? Did you actually login as Jannie or something? I miss seeing your blue bunny face, Blue Bunny. Did Jannie ask you to sign in as her for some reason? I saw that you had commented on Alicia’s blog with your own avatar. So, I was just curious as to why you are showing up as Jannie here.

Oh, I asked Jannie about apples? I seem to recall something about Granny Smith apples. Was this a reference to Jannie’s nickname of “Grannie Jannie”, bestowed upon her by one of her many devoted blog commenters?

Thank you for saying hello to Gyan! She is new to you, yes. She is not new to me. She and I became fast friends on Twitter awhile back. Even though I no longer use Twitter, I stay in contact with Gyan. She is very nice, Blue Bunny. I know you will like her very much.

Jeanne

P.S. Blue Bunny, please don’t take offense to any of the butter beer (Harry Potter) or butterbur (herb) comments that Gyan and I were making earlier.

Dear Blue Bunnie,

It’s nice that you are taking a little break. Wow, you have shopped a great deal with Jannie’s credit card? That’s awesome. So how does that work? Does she give you a limit or can you just go to town? How strict of a boss is she?

They have carrots on EBay? Listen, BB, I did some research for you and discovered that Amazon has carrots! Yes. One example of what they carry is something called “Earth’s Best Strained Carrots”. I thought that sounded like something that might appeal to you. So you can skip EBay and get one stop shopping at Amazon for all your bunny needs.

You have never seen Harry Potter??? I thought for sure you had been drinking Harry Potter butter beers! Huh???? (Jeanne scratches head)… Yes, I’m sure you would like it. If you haven’t been drinking butter beer, what have you been doing that makes you, shall we say, slightly… umm… incoherent at times? What is causing that then? If you don’t mind me asking, of course. Such a mystery…

Yes, I look forward to connecting with you and Gyan later.

Thank for stopping by, BB! πŸ™‚

Hi Jannie!!

Great to see you too! Blue Bunny(ie) is nice but I miss you when you’re gone. So, this is a special treat!

You are too funny with that phone. You just love that thing, don’t you? I can picture you tapping away in the auditorium. I am looking at the time stamp of your message and it would appear that the “Cultural Challenge” should be underway soon. That’s awesome that you got the best seat in the house for videotaping. I love when that happens. πŸ™‚

Then lunch, school, and the library for the book review you mentioned earlier today…. Woo hoo! Busy lady!

Then back to school and then gymnastics? My, my. Busy lady!

Then what?? I am guessing the next step will be… collapsing. Right? I mean… even a super-heroine like you will need rest after all that, right???

Jeanne

P.S. FYI: When you comment on your phone, you call yourself Jannie Funstet. Something for a Bord On A Wire typo post perhaps?
