Thanks for posting this. I had no idea there was a survivor day. My 1st husband committed suicide at home Sept 14/98 and absolutely destroyed our children. They are now grown men but still carry it around with them every day. It is certainly a tough thing to go through for an adult and it brought me to my knees. For my 2 sons though, it changed them literally forever. They were 12 & 14 at the time. If one family can be saved from such tragedy & heartache it would be wonderful. Thanks again for taking the time to post about such an important issue.XO

Jeannette:

I am incredibly sorry for your loss and for your sons’ losses as well. It is difficult for me to even imagine what that situation was like for you. I’m so sorry.

You mentioned the importance of saving other families from such tragedy and heartache. Obviously, I couldn’t agree more that this is very important. Suicide prevention is an important topic that I believe needs to be talked about openly and de-stigmatized.

Suicide first aid resources (such as suicide prevention hotlines) are available in many locations around the world. When I took a class about suicide alertness, the instructor emphasized the importance of getting people with thoughts of suicide connected with such resources… where there are people available who are specially trained to handle suicide crisis intervention.

Thank you for your comment, Jeannette. I believe when people speak out about being survivors of suicide, like you did, that it can make others facing similar situations feel less alone!
