Earth Day 2010

Last year, I read an interesting post about Earth Day written by Robert Redford that stuck in my mind:

Making Every Day Earth Day

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.

Here is the Official Earth Day 2010 Campaign site. Check it out for ideas and information:

Yay! Happy Earth Day!!

We have made great strides in cleaning up the planet. Let’s keep it up! Each of us working our own little spots will add up to a whole lot of clean and green!

Jannie,

Happy Earth Day!

Things are trending in the right direction in many ways. There’s a lot more work to be done. As you alluded to… every little bit really matters. 🙂

40 year anniversary of earth day. Progress does happen (oh so slowly). Next week our giant recycling bins arrive (no longer need to sort)…and I live in a state slow to “green-up”. I notice more and more people carrying reusable bags into stores. We have yet to have large chain health food stores settle here which frustrates me. It takes nearly a half hour to get to our one and only “Coop”, natural and organic food market.

My daughter was just teasing me about all the things I could do to help celebrate earth day, like ride my bike to my dentist appt. this morning, plant a tree, drive to the organic market etc… We decided that when you have a chronic illness, its harder to celebrate earth day.

I guess like you do Jeanne, we can spread the word, so that others who can ride bikes and drive to organic markets and nurseries, will do so…

For mother’s day I always have my family plant some sort of garden for me, as my gift. This year it will be in containers, because they are easier for me to maintain. Gardens…picking our own organic veggies…I like thinking about that on Earth Day.

Happy Earth Day Jeanne!

Kerry,

Yes, the progress is slower than we’d like but there is progress. That’s great that you won’t need to sort. I was amazed to learn a couple of years back that in Florida (where my in-laws live) soda cans are still thrown away! There’s no deposit on the cans to get them returned and recycled. They just go in the garbage. 🙁

Yes, more and more people are using re-usable bags. It’s great, isn’t it? I can empathize with you on the health food store front as it’s 40 minutes away for us.

I agree that we each just do what we can to spread the word.

Yes, we have an organic vegetable garden that my husband just expanded a little.

I hope you had a nice Earth Day, Kerry!

Jeanne
