Don’t Give Up
Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush ~ Don’t Give Up
After not having heard this song in years, I happened across it tonight. I have always loved this song. To me, Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush both have hauntingly beautiful voices. The “don’t give up” in the chorus has always been the part of the lyrics I noticed. When I looked up the lyrics tonight and looked through the choices for a video of this song, I realized that the song is written about a couple dealing with unemployment. (On one of the live YouTube videos, Peter Gabriel indicates this is what he wrote the song about).
For me, though, the song is potentially uplifting to just about anybody. We all have times we feel like giving up on one thing or another. I was looking for something uplifting to post and this song literally fell in my lap. I hope you find it as uplifting as I do.
“Don’t Give Up” ~ Lyrics by Peter Gabriel
in this proud land we grew up strong
we were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail
no fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I’ve changed my face, I’ve changed my name
but no one wants you when you lose
don’t give up
‘cos you have friends
don’t give up
you’re not beaten yet
don’t give up
I know you can make it good
though I saw it all around
never thought I could be affected
thought that we’d be the last to go
it is so strange the way things turn
drove the night toward my home
the place that I was born, on the lakeside
as daylight broke, I saw the earth
the trees had burned down to the ground
don’t give up
you still have us
don’t give up
we don’t need much of anything
don’t give up
’cause somewhere there’s a place
where we belong
rest your head
you worry too much
it’s going to be alright
when times get rough
you can fall back on us
don’t give up
please don’t give up
‘got to walk out of here
I can’t take anymore
going to stand on that bridge
keep my eyes down below
whatever may come
and whatever may go
that river’s flowing
that river’s flowing
moved on to another town
tried hard to settle down
for every job, so many men
so many men no-one needs
don’t give up
’cause you have friends
don’t give up
you’re not the only one
don’t give up
no reason to be ashamed
don’t give up
you still have us
don’t give up now
we’re proud of who you are
don’t give up
you know it’s never been easy
don’t give up
’cause I believe there’s the a place
there’s a place where we belong

Endometriosis is a life-sentence and anyone who has survived it is a miracle, in my book.
Thanks so much for the tip on linking Josh and Alicia’s adoption request on my site. I think I linked it on Red Wagon Flights, but I am coming to you from Yaya’s Changing World Thanks again for the tip.

Welcome Yaya,
I should clarify for readers here that this Yaya is not “Alicia aka Yaya” but another Yaya. Got all that?
For those of you reading this, I am looking, on my screen right now, at back to back comments from both “Yayas”… posted 17 minutes apart on the same post.
Yes, endometriosis is a challenging condition… to say the least! I’ve lived with it for 27 years and it is not melodramatic to talk in terms of surviving it… as anyone who has it knows. That is actually how I met Alicia… through an endometriosis support group.
That’s great that you’re linking to Alicia’s adoption site on your sites too. I firmly believe the more people we can get the word out to, the better!
I had seen a comment you made to Alicia the other day (the “Yaya” made it stick out in my mind); so, I know you are one of her online friends. If you know any of Alicia’s other online friends, I hope you’ll encourage them to promote Alicia’s adoption site as well.
Thank you!
Jeanne
Alicia,
I’m glad you like it. I have always loved this song. I just got a new visitor named Yaya… right before you here!
I believe you know the Yaya I mean. She has posted your adoption site badge on her Red Wagon Flights blog. She also wrote back to back posts there about your situation.
