Helping women with chronic illnesses

Blog Giveaway 1

Some of you may recall me mentioning there would be blog giveaways available after launch? Well, let’s kick off the blog giveaways in style by giving away a very special CD!

See Jannie's awards!

See Jannie's awards!

This CD is no ordinary prize for several reasons:

1) Jannie Funster is funny as heck and one of the nicest people I’ve had the pleasure to meet online.

2) She is a fellow blogger who makes people laugh and think and enjoy life. (Follow her on twitter: @janniefunster)

3) She is a talented singer-songwriter who combines beautiful music with humor and fun.

4) She just happens to have a special bond with many readers here, as she is an endometriosis sister.

While the thought did occur to me to have tweeting about this blog or linking to it on Facebook be part of the contest rules to enter (as I’ve seen done on other blogs before), I decided to keep this contest simple and go strictly by randomly picking a winner out of comments made to this post.

Please bear in mind that I certainly welcome any help I can get at getting the word out about my blog’s move. So anything you can do to do so would be greatly appreciated!! Tweets and retweets seem to be particularly effective!

Contest rules are simple:

Comment as many times as you wish. The more times you comment the greater your chances are to WIN! Then, on Monday June 8th at 9:30 pm EST I will see how many comments in total there are and will choose 1 of those by number at random. Then I’ll post the winner here. That’s it! So be sure to come back Tuesday morning to see who won!

Jannie Funster is standing by, ready to ship out the CD to the winner of this contest. One more thing, Jannie will autograph it. How cool is that?

If you’d like to hear samples of her songs, here’s a link from her blog with some:
MP3 samples

If you too want to order Jannie’s CD, just go here: Jannie Funster’s blog.

If you want to WIN her CD, leave comments on this post. The more you leave, the better your odds of winning.

Finally, I would like to ask a favor of anyone who has Jeanne’s Endo Blog listed in a blogroll… Could you please be so kind as to update the blog name and address to reflect the change made in my recent move? Thank you so much!

Also, if you like what you see here on Chronic Healing, please click on that pretty blue RSS feed button, so lovingly picked by Cassie Germsheid, and subscribe to my blog.

Speaking of Cassie Germsheid, many people have commented to me about liking the new theme, features, screen load speed, etc. Well, Cassie Germsheid is the one who made that happen. So thank you to Cassie for a job well done!

Good luck to everyone on the contest!

Hi Jeanne,
I have changed the link to your site on my blog to reflect the new web address. Great job on it too-I love the ease of navigation and have already visited several times. Thank you for being so kind to me also. I think you are an amazingly caring person and I wish all the best for you.

To be dealing with chronic illness yourself and still reach out to others is an awesome characteristic and I truly believe that what you are doing will come back to you a million-fold! Karma yes, you will without a doubt be rewarded for your kindness.

Take care and keep up the great work!

Holy cow!! Lots of comments over here. Areant’ blog buddies The Absolute Best. (Please don’t pick me okay – so far I’m comments 13 and 31.) So DO NOT pick those. But will you pick yourself?

Anyone can enter to win Jannie’s CD.

I just walked in the door from the endocrinologist after having my thyroid checked myself.

As far as the answer to your question about what qualifies as a chronic condition, generally the medical profession defines a condition as chronic when it persists for 6 months or more. Obviously there is a wide variety of chronic conditions.

Consider yourself entered. :)

36 JeanneNo Gravatar { 06.04.09 at 2:38 pm }

Hi Jeannette!

Thank you for changing the link to my site on your blog to reflect the new web address (!) and I’m so glad you like the new design. Cassie really did some cool things, huh? :)

That’s awesome that you’ve already visited several times; thank you for that!

You don’t have to thank me for anything! Thank you for your kind words. You ought to know all about being amazingly caring since it describes you perfectly.

I know you are going through a challenging time right now and I hope things get smoother for you soon. I know it’s very frustrating in the meantime. I have fought battles similar to what you are fighting and it is NOT FUN. While it’s unlikely to magically get better overnight, try to believe that things will improve in time. I know that can be hard to believe. I struggled with this process myself not too long ago.

Hang in there. When you’re in the really hard part, it feels like it will never get better. It sounds to me like you’re in the really hard part. I wish all the best for you too.

It is precisely because of my chronic illnesses that I have learned the importance of the two-way street of connecting with other patients. Starting in 1992 when I was diagnosed with endometriosis, I became active in support groups at the local level. A couple of moves later, I started an endo support group in 2001. We met monthly for 7 years and I am still in touch with the group members.

From interacting with fellow patients since 1992, from attending a class on facilitating self-help groups, and now from blogging… I have learned so much from others. It’s really a two-way street. If patients share with other patients and support each other, everyone benefits. It’s a win-win.

My online friends help me every single day. I just do the best I can to keep up my end of the bargain. :)

Seriously, what I’m doing sharing my experiences here is no different than what you’re doing on your own wonderful blog. Everyone has their own experiences and their own frame of reference. Your insights, support, and kindness stand out. :)

You take care too and keep doing what you’re doing because you are helping people! :)

37 JeanneNo Gravatar { 06.04.09 at 2:58 pm }

I’m glad you like the giveaway. Of course, then again, how can anyone not like a giveaway involving a Jannie Funster CD, right? I think it’s safe to say that everyone loves Jannie! :)

P.S. Well, I suppose maybe that one reader who dubbed her Grannie Jannie might not love her… but Jannie grabbed right onto that name and ran with it, didn’t she? She just made it her own! Classic Jannie Funster! :)

38 JeanneNo Gravatar { 06.04.09 at 3:14 pm }

Yes, those comments are starting to roll in now. :)

Thanks for the post, my dear.

Yes, blog buddies are The Absolute Best.

Alas, I never intended to pick you fair maiden! It would hardly be fair to have you win your own CD. Besides, it makes no sense to ship it to yourself. You already have it in your possession, silly. :)

Seriously, you are #13 but someone else is #31. I believe #31 is one of your readers… TheWeyrd1? What are you trying to do, take TheWeyrd1 out of the running? Tsk tsk. That might not be appreciated. :)

Don’t worry, I won’t count you… or me! Silly Jannie…

Wow, quite the little par-tay you’ve got going on over here, Jeanne!!

Jannie Funster’s last blog post..Another chance!

51 JeanneNo Gravatar { 06.05.09 at 3:51 pm }

Well, you see, when the Funster is directing traffic… these par-tays just pop up spontaneously. It could be the promises of jasmine moonbeams that you had made. It could be that your cult following really listens to posts like “Another Chance”. Maybe it’s because people have listened to your MP3 snippets and they are on the edge of their seats hoping to win the real deal. Perhaps it’s the lure of your autograph on it. Whatever it is, I agree that there’s quite the par-tay going on. :)

Welcome! I’m so glad you stopped by. Thank you! I’m glad to hear you’ll be back. I just took a quick peek (too quick) at your blog but didn’t have time to take as close a look as I’d like since it’s 1:20 am and I should be asleep. However, I do plan to go back and check it out. There were some interesting pictures that looked like cherry blossoms that I look forward to checking out more thoroughly. Yes, the tension and anticipation is almost unbearable, isn’t it? A mere couple of hours now. No, not a hat. I will be using RANDOM.ORG to pick a number for the winner. (If it gives me a number for a comment posted by either you or me, I’ll try again as we discussed previously). So, it’s all a game of chance now! Since I will almost certainly be too tired to post anything on my blog tonight, I have told readers to check back here tomorrow to find out who the winner is.

Yay!!!!! Congrats Susie!

And THANKS, Jeanne for being such a sweetie to so generously host this!

Susie, the CD will go out today or tomorrow. Are jasmine moonbeams okay? I also have fresh shipments of lemon verbena and chocolate macadamia just in — but I can send the CD with whatever fine aroma your heart desires.

Jannie Funster’s last blog post..Got Gravatar? No? It’s Easy!

63 JeanneNo Gravatar { 06.09.09 at 11:08 pm }

I am pretty sure the shipping of a Jannie Funster CD amidst a jasmine moonbeam option was only advertised on your blog (and possibly twitter). I don’t think that was mentioned here. I know the lemon verbena and chocolate macadamia shipping options are news to me. I would remember lemon verbena because that was the perfume Miss Beedle wore on Little House on the Prairie. (Miss Beedle was a nice lady but I’m glad she was on TV so I didn’t have to smell her perfume. I’m guessing my multiple chemical sensitivity sister Susie would pass on that scent as well). While I can imagine living in Hawaii might help one develop a taste for macadamia nuts, I’m again unsure of anything involving scents.

Sooooo, you may have to change your mindset a bit from the notion of sending an aroma (however imaginary it might be)… simply because an aroma to one person can be quite problematic to others. Rather than trying to select an aroma that wouldn’t cause a canary to drop, why not perfect that autograph of yours on the liner notes? I am guessing that Susie is like me in that the autograph would be better done in regular pen (like you did mine) than in marker. I know with my MCS, a Sharpie’s revolting stench would definitely surivive the shipment process resulting in me turning into a sick canary on the receiving end. (Seriously, I almost fainted in the grocery store the other day because I was in an unfamiliar store location and accidentally got too close to the detergent aisle). So why not get that pen out and practice signing your autograph with one of your witty sayings that makes me laugh so hard? I’m betting that Susie would appreciate a funny autograph over an aroma. :) If I had money, I would bet money on it!

64 Susie CollinsNo Gravatar { 06.09.09 at 11:34 pm }

If it’s an imaginary scent, I am all game! But if a real scent, I must pass. Unless it’s real moonbeams, chocolate, lemons or jasmine flowers, it’s probably synthetic, which is full of toxic chemicals. Hard to believe, but true. Also, if your are storing unscented products with scented products, there will be cross contamination. So may need to stay out in my garage for awhile to detox before I can give it a listen. Such is the life with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity.

Susie Collins’s last blog post..The need for toxic chemical policy reform

65 JeanneNo Gravatar { 06.10.09 at 12:02 am }

I just reached this comment. Boy, did I call that one! :)

Alas, Jannie is talking about imaginary scents. I knew this when I replied to her comments (see earlier). However, I posted a comment about scents and MCS too…

I figured that maybe someone reading these comments will learn something new about MCS. You never know!

I am all-too-familar with the consequences of exposure to toxic chemicals (like what you referenced). Yes, mixing unscented and scented items basically makes them all scented in my book.

Like you, I use my garage as a “detox area” for items that cannot enter the house until they have thoroughly aired out. (Of course, some items never do seem to air out sufficiently to graduate indoors).

Don’t worry, Jannie’s scent references are all imaginary. She is one of the most imaginative people I have had the pleasure to come across. She is really something! :)

Anyway, we want you to be able to pop that CD in pronto when you get it. So don’t worry. Jannie’s not going to send you any real scents. Imaginary only!

66 Susie CollinsNo Gravatar { 06.10.09 at 1:44 am }

LOL, the yoke’s on me! Well, then, I will have moonbeams, please.

The weird thing is I just read about how they are putting scents in books now, so it wasn’t too much of a stretch to think it was in CDs, too. Oh, the horror.

67 JeanneNo Gravatar { 06.10.09 at 1:49 am }

Nah. You are too cute. You never know where scents will show up nowadays (and with odd names too)!! :)

You’re in good hands with Jannie.

68 JeannetteNo Gravatar { 06.10.09 at 7:54 am }

I am sorry, just had to post a message as I was reading about the lemon verbena the first thing that popped into my head was Little House on the Prairie…then I read your post and found myself, giggling about it early this morning. Not sure why I found it funny but I am grateful to laugh this early while in such pain.

I’m glad it gave you a laugh. That was all I could think of when I read Jannie’s comment about lemon verbena was Miss Beedle on Little House on the Prairie.

Laughter is the best medicine. :)

There is a reason I follow Jannie… she keeps me laughing (and laughing does distract from pain).
